[SOLVED] Error when uploading

Post by Larivas » Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:16 am

I've uploaded plenty of files in the past, but tonight when I tried to upload my guild's log I'm getting an error "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error". I've never seen this error before, I've tried uploading on both my desktop and laptop. I've used a different internet connection and I've reset my own, all with no success. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Here is the console report:

In some cases, issues like this one can be resolved by changing Java's network settings:

Control Panel > Programs > Java > Network settings, then select "Direct connection" and click OK twice.

If that doesn't resolve your issue, please post back here.

This seems to have worked and allowed me to upload last night's logs. Thank you. Any idea why it would stop working after I had uploaded so many logs in the past without problem? Just out of curiosity in case it happens again I'll know the cause.

Java is set to use your browser's (IE's) proxy settings by default, so if something changed there that could be the cause.

More often than not, though, it seems like Java fails to abide by the browser's proxy settings and breaks for no particular reason. Perhaps a recent Java update is to blame.

Use a proxy server with caution, when using a public proxy server, it is not recommended to visit the sites on which you are authorized, or go through the authorization procedure on sites. Data can be intercepted by the owner of the proxy server. If you use the Internet through public proxies, always try to use the HTTPS protocol to protect your data. In my opinion, German SOCKS are the best but they also have HTTPS)
