LF Logs with Disc Priest

Postby thedogmode » Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:59 pm

Hi! I'm From the Horde guild MAGDALO of Thaurissan, we only have one disc priest in our raid and so I can't compare his performance with anyone else :( Can anyone link me to an Ulduar 25 Raid with a disc priest healing? Ulduar 10 logs are also welcome but the 25 man ones are preferred :)

Thanks guys!

We've got a few disc priests after discovering their "healing done" isn't bad at all. Guild url: http://www.worldoflogs.com/guilds/7/

They still don't "pwn" the meters, but the amount of low health warnings on tanks has been drastically reduced since we have a discipline priest in every raid.

I was healing on XT hardmode, Kologarn, Auraya and first try on Hodir today. We have two discs in raid. I'm almost only spamming shields and throwing around occasional PoH/PoM/penance, other is a bit more balanced. Unfortunately I didn't log XT hardmode kill but according to recount I was roughly on par with the other priest, just had ~70% of all healing coming from shields.

I am the disc priest (Chindeep) in these two 10-man runs. There are a few reasons my healing might be a little off base. First, I had never healed Ulduar before. Only previous experience was tanking, and I had never tanked Hodir or Thorim before these runs. Also, my guild was not really doing any healing assignments. I still mostly concentrated on tank healing (which is where your disc priest should be, btw), but couldn't really dedicate, and the other healers were also bleeding into healing the tank. There have also been a few gear upgrades in this timeframe, so it isn't exactly apples to apples.

I don't know how this compares to other disc priest experience, but I'll be looking at the other logs posted in this thread to compare as well.

You may also want to compare the disc priest's gear to view differences, as well.

Don't fall for the "rules of thumb" with disc priests, either. Different playstyles cause those to go right out the window. I think EJ forums say "take recount and add 25-30% to hps for an accurate number." I've seen other discussions here where people say up to 70% of their effective healing is from shields. I run about 44%, based on these logs. Some disc priest may run as low as 25% if they are seriously FH spamming.

If you really want to compare apples to apples for your guild, run 10-ulduar with them (or two-heal 10-naxx) and ask the other two healers what they would expect their HPS to be on recount based on their normal experience. If their recount runs high, you have questions to ask. If it is the same or lower, your priest is doing fine.

i.e. - 10-naxx run, me and a shammy 2-healing. Normally, if it were a shammy and pally, they would both run about 2k hps for the night. Shammy runs about 1900 hps on recount running with me while I am sitting at about 1400-1500.

To me, disc healing is partially cheating, as you're reducing the amount of healing the other healers can do.

This was tonight's raid. We did mimiron, thorim, freya, vezax and yogg (all easy). Because of the amount of predictable incoming damage, I preshield, and get the credit for the healing before anyone else. :P I usually don't get put on tank that much any more, so I help heal the tank and heal the raid. I just shield raid -- the other raid healers are better equipped to soak up what damage does happen. if I've got mostly weakened souls up, then I start in with some flash heals and pohs.

In some cases where the damage is nicely predictable, I'll shield 10 people and start a poh on another group.

Assuming for a bit of an overestimation of pw:s I'd still be right where I needed to be in the middle of the healers. Plus, you must take into account the 3% reduced damage disco priests bring. :)

edit: One more thing: in our raid group, I'm one of the most undergeared healers we have. I still have 2 ilevel 200s (trinkets) and a few ilevel 213s (notably weapon and two or three other items) and at least one 219. Most of the other healers (at least three) are in full 226, maybe higher, maybe with one or two 219s.

I tell you this not to brag, but to show you just how much a disc priest can shine if they understand their role given the situation.

I love being disc.

I was in charge of dispelling and trying to keep shields up on people on the Factions.

However in the Beasts fight I think it really shines since it is such a tank beating fight.
We struggled mightly during the night, but what I found out later was I was basically solo healing my tank most of the night (not very successfully, but enough that nobody really thought to double check to make sure the other healer was focused to help me).
