[Windows] Where's my WoWCombatLog.txt?

Post by Miles » Wed Feb 03, 2010 4:01 pm

The location of the WoW combat log depend on a lot of things, but one sure way to find it is with Process Explorer from Microsoft.

1. Download it from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx
2. Run the program. File -> Show Details for All Processes
3. Start WoW, type /combatlog to open the file
4. Go back to Process Explorer, press Ctrl-F, Search for Combat. Make sure you capitalize the C, it's case sensitive!
5. You should get something like in the screenshot.

Or, go to the way you load wow and right click it and pick Properties.

Now in the box called Start in: (2nd white box from the top) it will say where your wow file is. Normal it will be "C:\Program Files\World of warcraft"

Now you know where you installed wow onto your computer. The combat log shold be in the logs file inside your world of warcraft file.

This also works on other OS's give or take a name here and there.

Hope this helps :)

That works for most cases, though not all. The method above is foolproof (as far as I'm aware).

One such case arises when you have Windows' UAC enabled and WoW installed in a protected folder. Given that WoW runs with limited privileges, your files will not end up in the actual logs folder, but the virtualized version in C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\path\to\WoW\Logs.

[windows]+[r] cmd [enter]

cd /d c:\ [enter]
dir /a /s wowcombatlog.txt [enter]

And wait. This assumes you've installed wow on c:\, if not, change the drive letter. If you have installed it on d:\ and didn't find anything there, try c:\ too. It could be moved to somewhere deep in C:\Users\...\AppData\

Have you clicked File > Show details for all processes?

For clarity, as it appears at least one person above was confused, you are to type /combatlog into the chat in-game. This is NOT a command line switch that you start WoW with.

On Mac OS X, the Logs dir should usually be set to

Code: Select all

/Applications/World of Warcraft/Logs
